The exuberant Boto Cor de Rosa (Amazon River Dolphin) is a type of river dolphin, one of the most intelligent members of the Amazon fauna. Generally, females have a color that is slightly more gray and are smaller than males, which are pink-hued.

In addition to being a common animal from the North of Brazil, he is also the main character of one of the oldest legends in the country. The male boto is also known by the name “pink lover”. Why? Let’s find out…

The legend says that on nights of full moon or at typical Brazilian parties in the month of June, the dolphin would come out of the rivers and transform itself into a beautiful and charismatic young man, wearing social clothes and a hat to disguise his big nose. He’d go by all over the city looking for parties and dances with the intention of attracting women.

It is also said that the dolphin uses his charisma to convince a young woman to take a boat trip on the river, where they enjoy a night of love.

However, on the next day, the seductive man disappears during the night and abandons the woman. And after a night of passion, the girl is pregnant. Would you believe that?

True or not, the fact is that this story served and still serves to justify a pregnancy outside of marriage. And if one day those who visit the Amazon hear someone saying that some child is the daughter of a dolphin, do not be shocked, as it is very common to hear this when the mother does not know who is the father of the child she is expecting.

Perhaps this is why Boto is one of the species of animals in the Amazon in extinction, because whenever they are spotted, they are killed, so as not to seduce the girls anymore.
